Pick Sense from Nonsense is a living archive of Caribbean wisdom — the sayings our grandmothers, fishermen, market vendors and rum-shop philosophers have passed down for generations, collected one day at a time.

It began in Barbados, with a simple worry: that the sayings we grew up on — the ones that carry a whole lesson in a single line — were quietly slipping away. So we started writing them down — each one with what it really means, where it comes from, and the everyday moment it belongs to.

From the author

This began at my grandmother’s kitchen table in Brooklyn — she’d say that, quoting her mother, before the gossip flowed. My family carried Barbados with us to Flatbush Avenue, and my summers carried me back. The wisdoms of the elders — at their feet, at bus stops, in the van stand, in town — stayed closest to my soul.
